Artistically Speaking Rebranded

From Rebecca E. Parsons, Publisher/Editor-in-ChiefRebecca E. Parsons

WOW!!! The first few months of this very special publication… Cre8tive Compass, has been so fulfilling and rewarding for me personally and professionally. You may notice the new look and name...the AS magazine and blog have been rebranded...during my biz planning process and with the urging of the board of directors, i discovered that i wanted to go a completely different direction and launch a media company...i have a BIG vision... therefore, the magazine, blog and radio show have been rebranded to Cre8tive Compass (C8C)... although the radio show will remain Artistically Speaking/Cre8tive Compass Talk Show, giving voice to the creatively self-employed...you can find links to all of these below.

Cre8tive Compass better speaks to my vision which is 'showing artisans the way to make a living doing what they love.' It incorporates ALL of my new and previous work under one brand (Do What You Love book and workshops, Cre8Tiva's blog in Cre8Topia, my counseling, mentoring and coaching programs, Cre8tive Entrepreneur University, and especially the Cre8tive Compass Community i am co-creating that was founded in the spirit of collaboration not competition to honor the passion and vision of artisans and the creatively self-employed.) My life's body of work in essence. All of these entities are produced and published under my new business REP MEdia.

I know that I am on mission with creative entrepreneurs and working on purpose when you engage by writing a comment, subscribing to the magazine, inquiring about how to submit an article, listening to the radio show, but most of all when you spread the word by telling your friends and other creative business owners about Cre8tive Compass!!!

And you have been telling your friends. The number of visitors in increasing daily and the interaction is beginning to happen...we have over 600 subscribers to date. The radio show listeners are growing by leaps and bounds...with over 2000 downloads of our show to date!!! We were the 3rd most popular art show on blog talk radio the last week of March. Lyna and I are changing how creative entrepreneurs get their business and lifestyle information.

With Cre8tive Compass Magazine, Radio, Blog, and soon to be launched Community, Our Mission: Artisan helping artisan–Craftsman helping craftsman. Co-creating a community that emphasizes collaboration, not competition. Forging a bond that will perpetuate the artforms. Bridging the divide between artistry, craftsmanship, and business while promoting the concept of an artistic community, is being accomplished one step at a time! We promise to inform creative business owners about artistic principles, encourage interaction among artists as business people while enhancing their lives and their lifestyle. But it is nothing without YOU!!!

You have out full attention. Please let us know what you need and want from Cre8tive Compass. This is your publication, your radio show, your community. Please feel free to make yourself at home, visit often, leave a comment, participate in the contests and exhibits!

Our Vision: A commitment to be a platform to profile artists who are representing artistic vision in the marketplace who can both encourage and provide role models to other artists, craftsmen, and creative entrepreneurs. Please tell us how we can accomplish this by leaving a comment below or on any of the articles, columns, department pages, etc.

I love being able to work like this. As we embark on our mutual creative journey, I want you to know that this is YOUR magazine and it is fully interactive. I am just a channel for YOUR ideas, YOUR needs, and YOUR wants. I encourage YOU to be an active part of Cre8tive Compass. Join the discussions, leave comments, send ideas, write a review…stay connected by visiting regularly. And Please Spread the Word through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn...place a link to the magazine on your website or blog.

During the next few months Cre8tive Compass will be in a major Construction Phase with new features and stories, launching of departments, new columns and much more. Please check back often. And let me know what you want to see by leaving a comment below.

Nancy Jones ArtWorks!...Spokane & Granicrete Spokane New Facility...

Nancy Jones ArtWorks!...Spokane & Granicrete Spokane

Open for business @ new location on March 1, 2010.

We are excited to announce many changes coming in 2010! Effective February 1st, 2010, we have leased a fabulous new facility near Spokane Industrial Park. The 5400 square foot space will include an outstanding showroom space featuring the decorative paint, plaster and concrete finishes our artisans are known for. Our warehouse area will provide production space allowing us to complete custom countertops and furniture/cabinet finishes on-site. We have a dedicated classroom space allowing us to offer more workshops for professional artisans and do-it-yourselfers. And, we will be expanding our sales area to include retail sales of the decorative painting products used in our training as well as finished painted furniture and art pieces. Our contracting business will remain as we continue to complete custom decorative finishes in local homes and commercial spaces.

Using my 35 years of experience in the decorative painting industry, we will be pulling together all of my resources to make ArtWorks!...Spokane and Granicrete Spokane the showcase for decorative finishes for the Inland Northwest.

We have begun the remodeling process, teariing down walls and redecorating all of the walls and floors with specialty finishes, but it will take a while to complete everything the way we envision it. So, as we ask for your patience during our transition, we also welcome your visit anytime! For a while, please be sure to call before stopping by to be sure you can find us.

Watch for notices regarding open houses and sales as we go through this process. Thank you for your past loyalty and we welcome the opportunity to serve you better in the years to come!

GOLDEN REVEALS NEW HEAVY BODY ACRYLIC COLORS....

GOLDEN NEW HEAVY BODY ACRYLIC COLORS

The 5 new colors with unique properties to complement the colors already in the Heavy Body family....

BISMUTH VANADATE YELLOW
The inorganic pigment has the opacity and lightfastness of a Cadmium color,
without the typical UV/moisture sensitivity, making it an ideal yellow for
outdoor use.
TRANSPARENT BROWN IRON OXIDE
This color rounds out the lines of browns, as it fills a color space between Burnt
Sienna and Burnt Umber, but with a cleaner, redder undertone. Imagine a dark
valued, reddish Burnt Umber, with a warm, clean, rich, melted chocolate undertone.
PYRROLE RED DARK
Clean, dark, and rich, this beautiful organic red pigment fills a color space
between Cadmium Red Dark and Cadmium Red Medium. It is a non-toxic,
higher chroma alternative to Cadmium Red Dark that can be used in outdoor
murals without the UV/moisture sensitivities of a Cadmium color.
PERMANENT MAROON
This color has been on our wish list for quite some time since we stopped
production of the beloved Naphthamide Maroon, due to the unavailability of the
pigment back in 1997. While Naphthamide Maroon was a single pigment color,
Permanent Maroon is a blend. This smokey, reddish violet color dries with a
sheen that is between glossy and semi-gloss.
CHROMIUM OXIDE GREEN DARK
A darker and cooler version of Chromium Oxide Green, with very good
opacity. In addition to offering a cool, opaque single pigment color for fine
artists, this color is closer than our regular Chromium Oxide Green to what is
sometimes referred to as "European Green".

The award-winning book is conversational, concise, wisdom rich, non-clinical, personal, easy-to-read and understand...a self-help book written for people who don't usually like "self-help" books. Some big decorative artist issues we plan to discuss and how can Beverly's work help reach a better conclusion:
  • How can creative entrepreneurs communicate confidence when they are selling themselves (and their work) to a client?
  • When a client wants to cross your business boundaries and asks you to break your policy...the big one is sample boards...customers want to keep them. Then they show them to other painters and ask them to reproduce it for less.
  • How do you ask for the commission/money?
  • What can we do when a client wants more than we agreed to or we jusy cannot seem to please them?
  • Dealing with difficult people.
  • Best way to handle a client who doesn't want to pay after all is said and done- even if you have a contract.
  • What do we need to do to improve our communication effectiveness overall? and so much more...
The 5 secrets to understanding other people:
  1. It's all About me.
  2. Behavioral Styles come between us.
  3. Values speak louder than you do
  4. Don't assume I know what you mean

Valentines with a Heart...

Valentines for Haiti
Hand Painted Valentines...Make a Donation!

Billet Collins are offering Valentines with a Heart...to support the help and rescue efforts in Haiti...100% of all proceeds go directly to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

Donation:  $10 for a set of six cards
While making our Valentines this year I had my mind on the disaster efforts in Haiti. There is so much devastation there that my donation seemed so small! But, I realized I had something to offer through my artwork so I made these cards for Haiti.

The design for the card was inspired by a traditional Haitian symbol for love which can be used for Valentine's Day, or simply as personal stationery. Each card is hand painted with Erzulie, the symbol of love, and printed on the back tells the story of how the donation for these cards will benefit the relief efforts in Haiti.
  from their newsletter
Not only will you make a $10 donation, you can also spread the word.  Each card includes a note that these were purchased as a donation for Haiti.

Order online at their blog or contact them directly at the studio.

January Cover Artist...Artistically Speaking Magazine

Artistically Speaking Magazine proudly presents our January Cover Artist and Creative Entrepreneur:

Sean Crosby Master Decorative Artist reCreation

I am foremost a decorative painter, but my greatest joy lies in teaching the trade to anyone who wants to learn, and once in a while a painter who has taken a class with me will contact me to help on a job. One of the most interesting projects came to me through my friend Anita Medina, a gifted painter I met in one of my faux fresco classes. A client of Anita’s was interested in replicating the entire fresco cycle of the life of St. Peter, as depicted in the Brancacci Chapel. The “Cappella dei Brancacci" is a chapel in the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence. It is sometimes called the "Sistine Chapel of the early Renaissance."   read more
